It was an absolute shock for me after hearing this recent survey details,in this survey it is found that more Americans play online games than use video sharing and social networking sites, according to a survey done by Parks and Associates Research Group.
The gamers are not just playing hardcore, fantasy or role-playing games like “World of Warcraft” or shooters like Halo 3, but they are also going for Bejeweled, Diner Dash, Cake Mania and other fun PC games.
Of the total surveyed 34% say they play online games,
29% watch short videos and,
19% visit social networking sites with the same frequency.
Despite the growing popularity of YouTube, MySpace and Facebook, gaming remains the king of online entertainment, driven largely by casual gaming activities, says James Kuai, a research analyst at Parks and Associates.
This study says that year-over-year growth rate for frequent online gamers is 79%, significantly higher than the growth rate for users of social networking (46%). The growth rate, however, for frequent users of video-streaming sites is 123%, “which could pose a significant challenge to the gaming industry in capturing the online leisure time of Internet users” suggests Kuai.
