The friends map uses the same satellite data as Google Maps and Google Earth. Google Earth acquires the best imagery available, most of which is approximately one to three years old. Data is updated regularly.

You can click on a friend’s profile picture to see their location on the map. Please know that if there is no map data for a particular region or if your friend chose not to put their location in their orkut profile, you’ll see a message “(not on map)” below their profile name.
This is best suited for user of NORTH AMERICA but the bad news ids that it doesn’t work for your friends in India.
